Social Learning Theory and VoiceThread technology


As an educator , I look for ways to improve my skill set and to add to my current tool box. Teaching throughout this pandemic has made me more aware of digital tools that can be utilized to tweak my instruction and possibly that of my school climate. I utilized a tool throughout my coursework entitled VoiceThread. Voicethread uses collaborative , voice, video, and chat features that can be implemented throughout your lesson to give your classroom an interactive approach. I have created one entitled :" What time does this person hit the water?" It is my first creation and I am improving in the usage of it and its applications for my classroom.  Here is the link. This lesson is intended for absent/ truant students  learning about the maximum ( vertex) and quadratic formula applications. It also is used for those students that need that refresher.

A blog creates a space for people  to express themselves where as they may not want to express themselves verbally. I am experiencing those hesitations and fear of participation from some students currently. Many are afraid of speaking out in fear of being wrong or just not in " the mood" . Is Solution Fluency Alive and Well in Your Classroom? Review

 Teaching to the test has been the universal flaw of many teachers in today's society. Who can blame some when there is pressure to cover material , curriculum , and fact fluency  interim bench marks. In doing so we have missed the mark in creating an environment for overall growth from all parties involved. We must first take a step back and review the areas upon which teachers create real life applicable problems and this is in the process of "Solution Fluency"  In mathematics , I look at problems that students can relate to . In Algebra 2 for example, a question that is posed is " What makes the perfect firework? What makes fireworks special? This opens a series of questions from students that look at the whole picture and not just a standard low level answer.
